By KeLi散歩 / KeLi Walk

This detailed walking tour explores the route from Musashi-Kosugi Station in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, to Tamagawa Station in the Ōta Ward of Tokyo. Filmed in March 2025, the video highlights the fascinating contrast between the rapid development around Musashi-Kosugi and the preserved traditional streetscapes that give the area its unique charm. Starting at Musashi-Kosugi Station, viewers are treated to views of major landmarks such as Tokyu Square and the station areas for both the Tokyu and JR lines.

The walk passes through Kosugi 3rd Avenue, featuring lively neighborhood streets, and includes stops at spots like “Yakushin,” a ceramic artwork by Sadato Suyama. The tour visits Keihin Fushimi Inari Jinja Shrine and includes glances at local favorites for food and coffee, such as Big Baby Ice Cream, Belle Matinee, Marimo Coffee, and Madras Meals. Karaokes, temples like Dairakuin, and the expansive Tamagawa riverbed round out the journey’s community highlights.

A key point in the walk is crossing the historic Maruko Bashi Bridge over the Tama River, where viewers see the original bridge pillars on both the Kawasaki and Tokyo sides, as well as the Monument to Tama River Flood Control. The walk then leads to Tamagawa Sengen Jinja Shrine—a significant site featured as the command center for Operation Taba in the film Shin Godzilla—and its observation deck offers panoramic views of the river area. Noteworthy are unique sights like a vending machine decorated with Shin Godzilla art, the Tamagawa Diner, and Daikokudo. The journey ends at Tamagawa Station (serving the Tokyu Toyoko and Meguro Lines), making this route an exciting mix of new development, traditional culture, and local flavor.

Musashi-Kosugi is renowned for its modern skyscrapers and shopping facilities, but its surrounding neighborhoods retain a strong sense of community and historical sites. The Maruko Bashi Bridge is an important connection between Kanagawa and Tokyo, while Tamagawa Sengen Jinja is a revered Shinto shrine that often attracts both history enthusiasts and fans of Japanese cinema. By highlighting both well-known and hidden spots, this video offers travelers a comprehensive introduction to two of Greater Tokyo’s most interesting border neighborhoods.
