By Choo-Choo Travel

If you’re a train enthusiast visiting Chiba Prefecture, Takoyaki & Pub Hokutosei offers an unforgettable dining experience that merges cuisine with genuine Japanese rail history. This unique restaurant in Kamogawa City is run by a former Shinkansen chef and decorated with a remarkable collection of real train parts, including green car seats from the 0-Series Shinkansen, JR whistles, and even functioning emergency buttons.

From the moment you step inside, you’ll feel as though you’ve walked into a mini railway museum. Guests can relax in authentic train seats, tinker with a working emergency alarm button, spin the rotating destination rollsign, and marvel at interiors repurposed from defunct sleeper cars like Hokutosei. The diner also features items such as a JR JNR-era fan, curtains from historic sleeper trains, a train hammer from “SuhaNeFu” carriages, and a JR Hokkaido KiHa 54 horn for added immersion. Model train layouts bring extra excitement for visitors young and old alike.

The food menu is as inviting as the décor. Favorite dishes include freshly grilled takoyaki (¥500), a mixed fried set meal (¥950), cola (¥200), and shaved ice (¥250). For a novel keepsake, purchase a Donation Ticket (¥500), which also lets you blast the train horn on-site. Altogether, the pub comfortably seats 17 guests indoors, with room for an additional 11 on the terrace from April through October.

Located about six minutes by car from Awa-Amatsu Station, Hokutosei is open daily from 11:30 AM to 7:00 PM and provides free parking for up to four vehicles. Whether you’re looking for nostalgia, railway memorabilia, or just great hospitality, this train-themed diner in Kamogawa delivers a full sensory travel experience that rail fans and families alike won’t want to miss.
