Final Runs of JR Kyushu KiHa 47: Nagasaki Line Scenic Train Window Journey (Nagasaki to Isahaya)

By 日本とアジアの車窓から

This video offers a scenic train window view aboard the classic JR Kyushu KiHa 47 series diesel car, traveling the Nagasaki Main Line from Nagasaki (長崎) to Isahaya (諫早). As the camera captures the journey from the right side of the train, viewers can enjoy the unique atmosphere of box seat travel and the distinctive running sounds of the KiHa 47, a favorite among Japanese railway enthusiasts. The train makes stops at several stations along the way: Nagasaki, Urakami (浦上), Uwakawa (現川), Hizen-Koga (肥前古賀), Ichibu (市布), Kikitsu (喜々津), Nishi-Isahaya (西諌早), and finally, Isahaya.

This route is particularly significant as these KiHa 47 cars are about to be retired. Starting from July 1, 2025, all services on this section will transition to the modern YC1 series diesel cars. That makes this video one of the last opportunities to virtually ride the nostalgic KiHa 47 and soak in views of the picturesque slopes and cityscape of Nagasaki before the era changes.

In addition to the beautiful visual journey, the video includes onboard announcements by Hirayama Yoko and immersive train sounds, capturing the ambiance of railway travel in regional Kyushu. The Nagasaki Main Line serves as a vital connection in the area and is loved for its charming scenery, which is well represented here. For those interested in Japanese trains, regional travel, or the subtle changes in Japan’s transportation mode, this window seat ride provides both a record and a tribute to a soon-to-be-phased-out classic.
